Employment Assessments and Support
Janine's graduate career development qualifications and experience in employment services, including workplace vocational rehabilitation, career counselling, and university career development, demonstrate her expertise as a career practitioner.
Her assessment approach is carefully considered and evidence-based, as well as tailored to the individual's needs. With her Master of Social Work, Janine is equipped to understand the complexities of the individual’s situation and provide an insightful assessment that takes into account the individual’s context when preparing a vocational report.
Janine's employment support practice includes assistance and guidance to individuals who are seeking employment, voluntary work or study. This can include a wide range of services, such as job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, and career counseling. It may also involve providing support for individuals with specific needs, such as those who are transitioning from high school to the workplace, or those who are returning to the workforce after an extended absence. The goal of employment support is to help individuals identify their strengths, skills and career goals and to help them to find sustainable, meaningful and fulfilling work.
Psychosocial, Physical and Cognitive Disability Assessments and Support
Janine is a highly qualified professional with a broad range of skills and experience in the field of mental health, primary health, education, and disability. Her background in social work enables her to conduct assessments in a specialised and evidence-based manner that is tailored to the needs of each individual.
Janine's proficiency in psychometric testing allows her to provide detailed and extensive reports to her clients. Her detailed reports are based on her extensive clinical knowledge and experience.
Janine's support encompasses various aspects such as:
Person-centered approach: focuses on the individual's needs, preferences, and abilities, and emphasises their autonomy and self-determination. I'll work closely with the individual and their family to develop a support plan that is tailored to their unique needs.
Strengths-based approach: focuses on the individual's strengths, skills, and abilities, rather than their deficits or limitations. I'll work with the individual to identify and build on their strengths to help them achieve their goals.
Collaborative approach: involves working in partnership with other professionals, such as healthcare providers, educators, and community organisations, to provide comprehensive support to the individual.
Advocacy: I'll advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities, and work to remove barriers and promote inclusion in all aspects of life.
Community inclusion: I'll support participants to participate in their community and access community services and activities.
Support for carers: I'll provide support to carers of people living with disabilities, including links to appropriate services, counseling, and information on available resources.
Behavioural intervention: I may use behavioral strategies to support participants, such as Applied Behavior Analysis, to help address problem behaviors and develop new skills.
Assistive technology: I may work with participants to identify and access assistive technology, such as communication devices and computer programs, that can help them overcome barriers and improve their quality of life.
These are general strategies, and it is important to develop a plan that is tailored to the individual's unique needs, preferences and abilities.
Background
Janine's career began in education as a teacher, but she eventually transitioned into human services due to the limitations of teaching in terms of supporting people with complex needs. She has had a diverse career in human services, including career development and counseling, mental health counseling, vocational rehabilitation, and primary health. She has worked in various settings, including private providers, government departments, and her own businesses. Currently, Janine is focused on NDIS work in the Wide Bay region, while also working part-time as a university tutor for social workers.
